| la macchina che abbiamo fatto Bruno ed io, e' adatta per stampare lastre di PVC (trasparente) o polistirolo (normalmente bianco) di dimensioni 50 x 36 cm. E' costruita artigianalmente con profilati di ferro saldati. E' concettualmente sempilce e sembra che funzioni in modo molto soddisfacente. Il costo dei realizzazione e' basso, sotto i 60 euro. The machine which Bruno and I have made has been adapted to press sheets of PVC (transparent) or polystyrene (usually white), which measure 50 x 36 cm. It was hand-made, using welded pieces of sheet steel. It is very simple in design, and seems to work reasonably well. All in all, it cost less than 60 euros to build. |

| la parte deputata al riscaldamento del foglio da stampare. Si tratta di due "scaldini" elettrici, contenenti ciascuno 3 resistenze elettriche. Sono largamente esuberanti e vanno termostatati. E' importate per ottenere un buon risultato, che la materiale da stampare venga riscaldato nella maniera piu' uniforme possibile. Questi due "scaldini elettrici" sono montati su un telaio di tubo di ferro, che e' incernierato posteriormente, per far si' che dopo aver rammollito il PVC/polistirolo, si possa velocemente rimuovere, per fare posto al master. The part which heats sheets before pressing. They are two electrical "heaters," each of which contains three elements. Any heat produced would be too much, so they require thermostats. For good results, the sheets of plastic must be heated as uniformly as possible. These two "heaters" have been assembled on a frame made of steel piping. It is hinged at the back, so that sheets can be removed quickly after they have reached the requisite temperature and the die brought into place. |

| per modellare a caldo un foglio di materiale plastico, (PVC o polistirolo) occorre una struttura che lo tenga ben saldo sul perimetro. Per esempio un telaio di profilato di ferro, che lo stringa fortemente sul controtelaio. La tenuta sul perimetro e' assicurata da una guarnizione fatta con un tubetto di silicone da miscela, incollato con pasta siliconica (tipo Motorsil). Questo telaio e' ribaltabile, per poter inserire e posizionare il foglio da stampare. La chiusura e' ottenuta con catenacci regolabili, da baule, comperati in ferramenta. When modelling hot plastic sheets (PVC or polystyrene), you really need something to keep it steady around the edges. For example, a sheet steel profile to press it hard against the frame. Tightness of grip around the perimeter is by means of silicone paste, glued on to the metal part. The frame can be tilted when inserting and positioning sheets for pressing. Locking is by means of adjustable bolts. (We have used trunk clasps, purchased from a hardware shop.) |

| il master viene appoggiato su un piano mobile, che deve scorrere dal basso verso l'alto. Nella posizione piu' bassa, il master attende che il foglio sia rammollito. Al momento opportuno, si accende l'aspiratore, e manovrando una leva, si fa scorrere il piano d'appoggio verso l'alto, portandolo a comprimere la guarnizione di tenuta contro il bordo inferiore del telaio che tiene il foglio di PVC (o polistirolo). The die is placed onto a moving plate, and has to slide upwards. Firstly, the die waits for the sheet of plastic to become soft. At the right moment, the fan is turned on, and the die brought up by means of a lever. It presses against the seal on the bottom of the frame holding the PVC (or polystyrene) sheet. |

| Molto importante che il piano d'appoggio del master, sopra abbia una rete a maglie fitte, per consentire all'aria di essere aspirata da tutta la superficie d'appoggio. Se non ci fosse questa reticella, il foglio di plastica risucchiato in prossimita' del foro di aspirazione, occluderebbe ermeticamente il passaggio, ostacolando o impedendo addirittura la formazione del sottovuoto. The mesh above the die must be very fine, so that air can be sucked from the whole surface. Without such a mesh, the plastic sheet nearest the suction hole would block it, and a vacuum would be impossible. |

| il master "entra" nella lastra resa plastica dal calore ed il sottovuoto creato dalla pompa che aspira l'aria da un foro sottostante, fa' aderire perfettamente il PVC al master stesso. Come aspiratore abbiamo provato un comune "bidone aspiratutto", che sembra andare benissimo. The die "goes into" the soft plastic sheet, and the vacuum created by the pump which is sucking air from a hole underneath ensures that the PVC adheres to the die perfectly. Our "vacuum pump" was a simple vacuum cleaner, which seems to have worked perfectly. |

| dopo il parziale raffreddamento della lastra, si spegne la pompa del vuoto, e successivamente si puo' sbloccare anche il telaio metallico che trattiene il foglio stampato. Per togliere il foglio modellato, si attende ancora qualche secondo, per evitare la deformazione del pezzo. Ecco come si presenta il foglio qualche secondo dopo essere stato stampato. When the sheet has begun to cool, the pump can be turned off. The new shape can then be detached from the upper frame. Before detaching the shape from the die, it is better to wait until it is completely cold so that it is not distorted during the cooling process. This is what the sheet looks like a few seconds after pressing. |
